How to Play Fan Tan Live

Fan Tan Live is a live dealer game by Evolution Gaming, where you have to guess how many beads are left under a metal cup after each round. A live dealer presents the game from a studio with a luxurious red fabric surfaced table with a glass dome full of white beads.

With each turn, the dealer lifts off the dome and removes any number of beads with an opaque metal cup. The dealer then displays these beads in four rows with a special divider stick. It's up to you to bet on the number of white beads left for the last row, which can be between 1 and 4.

Betting on the number of beads is possible until the dealer unveils the leftover beads by removing the metal cup. You have 14 seconds of betting per round. Note that it’s impossible to predict how many white beads will remain in each game. For this reason, there are no Fan Tan strategies that will guarantee you a win.

Default and Advanced Fan Tan

It sounds simple, but you can bet in many ways whilst playing Fan Tan Live. For beginner players, the number of betting options can be overwhelming. As such, there are two versions of Fan Tan Live – 'Default' and 'Advanced.’

Default Fan Tan Live Betting Options

By default, you only get a few options to bet with Fan Tan. These are the following options:

  • Fan Bet (1, 2, 3, and 4)

These bets are quite self-explanatory and are bets on the number of beads that will eventually remain, which is always between one and four. The odds on Fan bets are 2.85:1, meaning you will receive $3.85 for every $1 wagered.

  • Odd and Even Bets

If you bet on 'odd' (odd), you predict that one or three beads remain, whilst betting on 'even', you think that two or four remain.

  • Big and Small Bets

With these bets, you predict that either 3 or 4 beads remain (Big) or 1 or 2 beads (Small). For 'odd', 'even', 'big', and 'small' bets, the odds are all 0.95:1. So for every dollar wagered, you receive $1,95 when you’re correct.

Advanced Fan Tan Live Betting Options

When you switch the betting mode to ‘Advanced’, the number of betting options increases considerably. There are now three new choices, each of which has several variations. These betting types are known as Nim, Kwok, and Ssh (Sheh-sam-hong).

  • Nim

A Nim is a more extensive version of the Fan Bet. You bet on two numbers but only win if a single bead remains. If two beads remain, it’s a push and you will get your wager back.

Each Nim (twelve in total) has odds of 1,90:1. So for every dollar you invest, you get $2,90 back and you profit $1.90.

  • Kwok

A Kwok bet is the same as a Nim bet, but with one major difference. With a Kwok bet, you bet on two numbers, and you can win with both of them. It is very similar to Odd & Even and Big & Small. With a Kwok bet, only combinations of two numbers are possible.

There are four different 'Kwoks' – 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, and 4-1. The payouts are 0,95:1, which means you get $1.95 for every dollar you wager when your prediction is correct.

  • Ssh (Sheh-sam-hong)

With an Ssh or Sheh-sam-hong bet, you bet on three numbers. You have a greater chance of winning, but the payouts are reduced accordingly. When you place an Ssh bet, there are four options. These are 3-2-1, 2-1-4, 4-3-2 and 1-4-3. The odds at each Ssh is 0.316667:1. Here, you get rounded up $1.32 for every dollar wagered.

Fan Tan Live Switching Tables

Moving from a default table to an advanced one and vice versa is easy. You do this by clicking or tapping the 'Switch Game View' button at the bottom of your screen.

Fan Tan Live Statistics

Fan Tan Live provides its players with detailed statistics. You will find a graph icon at the bottom of your betting interface next to the option to switch tables. Once clicked, it will provide you with a large overview of the results of the 500 previous rounds.

This statistics screen is divided into three categories. At the top, you see the percentages of how often the amount of beads remained.

You will find an overview of the even and odd numbers left in the middle. Odd numbers are blue dots, and even numbers are red.

The lower part shows the ratios between Big (3 and 4) and Small (1 and 2). This is displayed similarly to the two categories mentioned but in yellow (Big) and green (Small).

Fan Tan Live Strategy

It is important to know that Fan Tan is completely luck-based. The chance that the next four turns will end in 1, 2, 3, 4 is just as high and random as a sequence of 4, 2, 2, 3.

However, there are ways to mitigate risk and optimise your odds. For example, it is safest to choose Ssh (Sheh-sam-hong), which covers most numbers. In addition, Big & Small, Odd & Even, and Kwok are interesting, because they cover half of the available betting options.

Fan Tan Live Return to Player (RTP)

The Fan Tan Live Return to Player percentage (RTP) is between 96.25% and 98.75%, of which the last number only applies if you play the game optimally.
